Stupid Bosses

She got promoted into the job as there’s no one else available (She’s been with the company for 10 years while I have been only been working here for 2 years). As part to the “bargain” to seal the deal of her taking over the Manager position, her relatives had to be given the boot. I can totally see where this is coming from the relatives are nice bunch but they don’t pull their weight when it comes to work and are quite frequently sick and their departure gives her full reign to be the major bitch that she is.

She micro manages and her perspective is totally out of line with a normal person. She gives vague instructions and if a problem occurs it is because we did not listen to her???! She’s away from taking any responsibility but if something good happens, she will vie for full credit. She is stingy but only on others, we are expected to DIY any repairs ourselves while she gets to splurge on luxuries in the name of Company.

Her idea of a gift to you is to either claim it from the Company or to give you discount vouchers that someone else passed to her and that she does not want it.

Customer: “Hey, how good is this book?” *holds a fantasy book*

Me: “I don’t know, I haven’t read it. But you might want to start with the first one in the series, if we have it right now…”

Customer: “You haven’t read it? You’re gotta be kidding me! Really, they hire anyone these days. I guess I’ll try it, then. You said it’s not the first

one?”

Me: “No, and it seems that we don’t have the first book in this series. If you want, you can leave your name and number and we will call you if someone sells it.”

Customer: “No, no, that will be fine. I’ll just come back. When will you get it?”

Me: “I don’t know, sir. We’re a used books store. We only get books when people sell them to us.”

Customer: “I know that, I’m not stupid! When will someone sell you this book?”

Me: “I don’t know, sir.”

Customer: *rolls his eyes* “I can’t believe they hired you. I bet it’s only because you’re pretty!”

Me: “Er…thanks, I guess?”

Stupid CoWorkers

Once I got called to the office of a co-worker (let’s call him Joe User) to help him figure out his username (he knew his password).

* Me: “Your username is ‘Joe User’.”

* Him: “Unacceptable! How much am I supposed to remember? I can only remember a certain number of things.”

* Me: “Wouldn’t one of those things be your name?”

* Him: “I guess I’ll have to write it down.”

He proceeded to write his own name on a sticky note and attach it to his monitor.

(I work at an asthma and allergy specialists office, and a mom called me 5 minutes to 5:00 pm on a Friday. We were getting ready to close for the weekend.)

Me: “Thank you for calling ****, my name is ****, how can I help you?”

Caller: “Yes, I need to bring my son in…”

Me: “Ma’am, we close our office at 5:00pm, and we don’t work weekends. Would you like to talk to the nurse?”

Caller: “No, he needs to see a doctor right now!”

Me: “Well, we have our doctor on call – you’re more than welcome to call him. He can answer your questions and help with anything–”

Caller: “Do you speak English?! I just told you that my son needs to be seen right now! He’s had this cough since Monday, and he hasn’t been breathing right since he got it!”

Me: “Well, it seems that if he’s been that bad since Monday, you would have brought him in then to be seen, or even Tuesday, and not wait until the weekend to call…”

Caller: “I was really busy this week! I had an appointment at the salon almost every day after work to get my hair done, my nails…. I just didn’t have time! I have time today because the stylist just called me; she had an emergency and had to re-schedule.”

Me: “Ma’am, right now our office is closed. Please take your son to the emergency room, as it seems like he needs to be seen immediately to have that cough taken care of.”

Caller: *very agitated* “If I take him to the ER, that’s a $100.00 copay! That would eat into my salon funds!”

Me: “…”
