Stupid CoWorkers

I am an accountant having various retail store locations reporting directly to me. One day I received a call from one of the retail clerks, let’s call her Marge. Here’s how the telephone call went:

Marge: I have a problem

Me: Yes, what’s wrong.

Marge: I just had a cash sale and I think I am going to be short $20.

Me: Why, explain what happened.

Marge: Well, this customer came to my counter and his total bill came to $80.00. He gave me (in cash) $100.00. Being that I gave him back $20, I am going to be $20 short!!!

Believe it or not, I spent 15 minutes on the phone with Marge explaining everything was fine!!!!

Stupid CoWorkers

I use to work at a 1 hour lab outside of a mall in Knoxville. The owner, Brenda, was just plain stupid, and set of to prove it on a daily basis. In the winter time, static becomes a problem because the negative get a charge, and dust will stick to the negs, causing white specks on the prints. To help fight against the static problem, we would spray the printing chair and control area with those anti-static sprays. If you were sitting in the printing chair, there was a sign right in front of your face warning to NEVER spray the negatives with that spray! Well, Brenda was printing one night and forgot to run the negs through the compressed air (blow the dust off the negs), so the prints all came out with white specks all over them. I return the negs to her to be reprinted (who would pay for poor printing). Thinking that this strip of negs was different in some way that made it super static, she picks up a can of anti-static spray and “cleans” the negatives with it! Then whips them down with a soft cloth. I tried to stop her, but it was too late. She goes on and prints the negative and when they came out, every picture was “smeared”. That stuff can soften the emulsion, and when she wiped them, it smudged everything, ruining the pictures forever. Needless to say, when the customer came in to pick up the pics, she tells them that something must be wrong with her camera, none on the pics turned out and showed the lady a couple of the ruined photos. The customer believes Brenda, which makes me wonder who was stupider!!! Side note— the next day, all the stores got memos about how we should never clean the negs with an anti-static spray. 🙂

I had just punched in at my place of employment and was putting my things away, when the coworker I take over for came up to me and said, “I can’t get the lint thingy back in the dryer right. I think I broke it.” I went to see what the problem was. I found that HE, yes it was a male, had put the lint filter in backwards. As I took it back out and proceeded to put it in correctly, he stopped me and said, “Wait, I forgot to put this back in.” I turned to see what he was talking about and in his hand was a big wad of lint.

I have been a manager for McDonald’s for several years & have worked with some pretty stupid people. The best however, is Amanda in Dothan, AL. One day several years ago we had a small “blizzard”. We were very busy and understaffed. I had seated a customer who was waiting on a Big Breakfast (2 eggs, biscuit, sausage, & hash browns). When the order was complete I placed it on a tray & asked Amanda to carry it out for me. 5 minutes later I still had not seen her return from the lobby. I looked outside and she was actually out there knocking on windows looking for the customer. As if this were not stupid enough when I explained that I would have placed it into a bag if it was to go out to a car, She wanted to know if I thought she should put the hash brown (NOW COVERED IN SNOW) back into the vat for a minute before taking it out!!! Amanda was 16 I hope she’s a little smarter now!!!
